In 1973, a young woman named Alba was arrested by the Chilean authorities and subjected to brutal interrogations in the torture cellar of the dictatorial administration. She finds the power to keep her sanity by documenting her family’s story inside her mind, so that one day she can publish the terrible secret that she lived.
Memories rise one by one, moving between realism and fantasy, revealing the story of her family and the fate of her loved ones over three long generations of passion, love, secrets and vicissitudes. All this, during of the civil war and the military revolution that brought to power the brutal dictator Augusto Pinochet.
The novel was adapted for the theater and has won many awards, including the American Theater Critics Award.
