A modern drama that tells the ironic the story of common people in Vienna, unemployment-stricken and legend-devoided, having survived WWI, that are beginning to realize that the worst was yet to come.
An unexpected love story that transcends boundaries and tries to overcome poverty, while in the background fascism and unemployment are growing stronger.
The play presents a gallery of colorful characters: a shop owner selling war toys and his daughter, a compulsive gambler, the neighborhood butcher, a flamboyant Tobacco salesgirl, a war hero and a war-driven student, all ranging on the subtle tension between survival and big dreams.
Aya Kaplan – Director at Be’er Sheva Theater, the Yiddish theater, the Cameri Theater and more, brings an original interpretation to this key work of modern drama, which sheds new light on the play, with memorable images and young and vibrant ambience.
