Nikolai Ivanov, approaching middle age, longs to reignite the passion in his life.
He no longer loves his wife, is buried in debt, and stands to lose his home and all his possessions.
In a desperate attempt to stay young and avoid growing old, he falls in love with a much younger woman, believing he can start a new life.
This is a comedy about a man striving to rise above the banality of life and escape the social norms he mocks—only to be confronted by fate’s ultimate irony: that he has no choice but to become a joke himself.
