The Yoram Leowenstein Acting Studio Proudly Presents:
MEDEA
by Euripides
Translation – Hagar Raanan
Direction– Dorel Zilberman
For the first time in Israel: the greatest tragedy of all time lands in the heart of the English suburb.
A contemporary, sharp and chilling adaptation by acclaimed British playwright Mike Bartlett, the creator behind the international hits Cock, Love, Love, Love, and Earthquakes in London. Bartlett takes the myth of Euripides and plants it squarely within our own reality.
England, 2016. Behind drawn curtains in a sleepy bourgeois neighborhood, Medea’s life is falling apart. Jason, her husband and the father of her child, has left her for a younger woman, and Medea finds herself isolated, rejected, and on the verge of eviction from her home.
The play plunges into the psychological abyss of a woman pushed to the edge. What begins as the nervous breakdown of a wounded woman in her own kitchen becomes a shattering inner journey in which pain turns to poison and humiliation ignites an ancient fury. This is not merely a tragedy of betrayal, but a ruthless exploration of the cost of total love and the fragile line between sanity and madness.
And ultimately, it is about a woman who decides to rewrite her own ending at the highest possible price.
